Kindle Fire HD Review

Two questions need to be answered.
1. Which Kindle Fire version is right for me?
2. How does it stack up vs the new iPad? Better or worse for the value?

Kindle Fire 2 HD or the Kindle Fire HD 8.9″ 4G Worth it?

If you own, seen, or read anything about last years Kindle Fire, these are the beefed up cousins of the original Fire. Whether you want a basic version with only WiFi, or a fully upgraded Kindle Fire HD 8.9″ with onboard 4G technology so you no longer need a hot spot. Also, the Kindle Fire HD could make a great gift as far as an entertainment device goes, but the 8.9″ 4G version while an even better entertainment device, can bring you more versatility. With a larger scree, Microsoft office compatible, it brings you all a tablet has to offer in a much more compact and slim version of a laptop or iPad3. Including dolby digital stereo sound, an HD camera for Skype, improved HD 1080p resolution, no glare screen, and more.

As for what it brings you, the apps, movies, games, web browsing, Skype calls with an HD camera, Netflix/Hulu/HBO/Pandora/Facebook – all easily integrated for sharing and viewing. If you want to buy one of these for your kids, it allows you to turn it into a child friendly device with time limits, PG rated material, etc. with a separate profile for each child. What doesn’t it bring you? Well, it can’t do your math homework.

Amazon Kindle Fire HD 8.9″ 4G vs. The New iPad

The Kindle Fire HD 8.9″ 4G is lighter, a bit smaller, about $250 less expensive, but perhaps a tiny bit slower. They are very comparable, so we can’t recommend the New iPad over the Kindle Fire HD 8.9″ 4G. The iPad costs $729 (32GB) or $829 (64GB) while the Fire HD 8.9″ 4G is $499 (32GB) or $599 (64GB). The price difference is $229, for 2 very similar products. Also, Amazon claims their tablet downloads 40% faster, which has yet to be backed up, but we will verify it as soon as we get our hands on one.

While the New iPad 3 has a slightly better resolution, the 8.9″ 4G LTE Kindle Fire has a special no-glare technology where they have laminated the screen and the glass together, instead of having a space that creates glare like the original Fire or iPad 3. Also, Amazon also claims to save you hundreds of dollars using their 4G plan as opposed to the iPad 3.

Overall, it is an easy decision to go with the Kindle Fire HD 8.9″ 4G over the new iPad 3.
