Board
Meeting
November 18, 2001
(Brent) Ok, I officially call the meeting to
order.
(Brent) Item 1 any comments about the minutes of last
meeting?
(Mary) None here.
(Gerard) None here
(Brent) Shirley:
no
(Jurian) None here
(Toni) No
(Brent) Then the minutes are ratified
as correct
(Brent) We will assume Roger had no comment... :-)
(Roger) Yea,
no comment.
(Brent) Item 2: Shaul's Resignation. This announcement is for the
official record, and any discussion should be for the record only.
Comments?
(Jurian) Nothing to say about it, except that I think we've lost a
good man here.
(Roger) We are loosing a great member and I am inclined to not
accept it.
(Mary) I for one would like to ask Shaul to reconsider. If he has
a problem, it is with Nancy and not with the board?
(Gerard) He decided
himself to leave, his choice .. No further comments
(Roger) We should appeal
to him to reconsider.
(Brent) Yes, he was an asset to the board, and will be
greatly missed. I hope he remains active on our lists.
(Mary) Has he
communicated with anyone on the board?
(Jurian) Not that I know of
(Roger)
Not me.
(Brent) Not me... Shirley: no
(Gerard) Not me.
(Toni) No not
me
(Brent) Shirley says: it's done, we can't do anything about it.
(Mary)
Would anyone, Brent, offically ask him to reconsider and if at the next meeting
he still wishes to resign we accept it.
(Brent) Ok then... moving
along.
(Brent) Item 3: UNIX servers online... Jurian?
(Jurian) Nothing to
report, still waiting for the router.
(Jurian) I think, if they won't hurry
up and get the router shipped, we might want to look at buying it somewhere
else.
(Jurian) Cause this delay is getting rather ridiculous.
(Roger) I
agree
(Brent) The router is still backordered? Yes, this is getting
ridiculous!
(Toni) What choices are there?
(Gerard) I agree too, it's
taking a while now, some months?
(Brent) Maybe Nancy should contact "Scott"
again, and light a fire under him!
(Jurian) Yeah
(Jurian) See if there is
any idea on how long this is gonna take.
(Jurian) If they can't answer that,
buy it somewhere else, its just a standard router, nothing fancy.
(Brent)
Great, do you want to discuss with Nancy, Jurian?
(Jurian) Sure
(Brent)
Great! We'll see what develops in the next few weeks, before the next
meeting.
(Jurian) Yep
(Brent) Ok Item 4: Booklet costs, for mass
production... comments? I'd like to add that a member of the Inc, Laura also
gathered prices, and the board thanks her for her efforts!
(Mary) Breaking
out the prices submitted by Laura, the cost of the books break down to $6.40
each.
(Mary) The diffence is they are stapled and not bound.
(Mary) Our
current costs are about $2.86 after the inital outlay.
(Brent) As I remember,
Laura's quote were for 8 1/2 x 11 size.
(Mary) She had both sizes.
(Mary)
No, she didn't just both sides, sorry.
(Toni) The quotes I got were about
$3.00...
(Toni) With a possible discount.
(Mary) After 1,000
ordered?
(Toni) For non-profit and for the possibility of repeat
orders
(Toni) Yes
(Toni) I just asked for quotes on 1000
(Mary) That's
great! $3 is a really good price.
(Toni) I think any Kinko's or Office Depot
would do the same.
(Toni) It does seem worth considering.
(Mary) I agree
except for the $3000 outlay.
(Brent) Question: can we justify printing 1000
copies at this time?
(Toni) There are still the labels, envelopes, postage,
etc.
(Jurian) How many have we sent out so far?
(Mary) Only 27
(Jurian)
1000 would be a bit overkill then, I think
(Brent) Plus, at this time, I do
not believe that we have the money to spend. Maybe in the first part of the
year.
(Mary) Toni, check on prices for 100 books. See what the difference
is.
(Mary) ... please check on prices... ..sorry.
(Toni) Ok. Does anyone
else have an Office Depot or Kinko's near them?
(Mary) Not me, I live in the
middle of nowhere.
(Toni) I really can't take the order and ship them from
here.
(Jurian) Nope, but that may be because we don't have those in Holland
:-)
(Mary) Nancy does.
(Toni) Roger? Brent?
(Roger) Huh?
(Toni) Do
you have an Office Depot near you or Kinko's?
(Brent) Yes, I have one close
by... .I'll check also. Don't worry about placing an order, Toni, we wouldn't
make you do that. :-), just comparative prices.
(Roger) I have a Kinko's and
a competitor, but I am swamped already...
(Roger) I could check prices as a
comparison.
(Toni) This still has not been formally announced as being
available on our lists, as Sol requested.
(Brent) So Toni and I can get
comparative prices... east and west coast.
(Toni) I think 100 would go right
away even from within the membership..
(Jurian) Exactly, it should be
announced..
(Mary) I have 22 books ready to go, awaiting Nancy's revision
pages.
(Brent) Yes, we were waitng for Nancy to give Mary the pages, and get
a stockpile of booklets ahead.
(Mary) Nancy can announce with a blurp stating
that delivery may take up to 4 weeks or such.
(Brent) Plus, we have to
announce that the booklet is available for dowmload, online.
(Mary) After the
initial push, it will slack off to reasonable requests again.
(Mary)
Definitely get the download thing announced first.
(Mary)
Definitely
(Brent) Yes... .Has Nancy sent the revised pages?
(Mary) Nope,
she's been too busy.
(Mary) We can send as is though. It's the diabetes thing
that Shirley found.
(Mary) And Rogers addition.
(Toni) The Jerusalem
Artichoke, which grows wild as well as cultivated, actually contains, Insulin
...
(Toni) which is nature's insulin, and was widely promoted by Edgar Cayce
...
(Toni) for diabetics. And it is certainly yummy. It can be dug from say
Oct to late May in this area ...
(Toni) can be eaten raw, or steamed like
potatoes.
(Mary) For now, lets get Nancy to announce on what's new the
availability of the downloaded booklet
(Toni) I planted some tubers in spring
and have already harvested some tubers this fall.
(Roger) There is a mention
of this plant in my texts, but it wasn't referenced as "proven" (no study had
been performed yet).
(Toni) Of course, why take money away from E
Lily?
(Mary) And give it a week or so and announce the book.
(Toni)
Insulin is Big Business.
(Roger) 'Tis true!
(Roger) They wouldn't support
the "discovery" of a natural replacement to their high dollar
chemical.
(Brent) We should add the Jerusalem Artichoke info to the
booklet.
(Mary) Get it to Nancy.
(Brent) Toni, would you forward the info
to Nancy for inclusion?
(Toni) I'm not sure where it is documented, probably
in the Cayce Health readings.
(Roger) My references do not really talk much
about it. It is mentioned as a useful herb, but no mention of
'insulin'
(Toni) I'll see what I can do.
(Brent) Well, is there any other
documentation on insulin we could find?
(Toni) Cayce Health readings are
available on a CD ...
(Toni) which I don't have.
(Brent) Thanks, Toni...
Roger, can you help document anything in your research?
(Toni) they may be
online as well.
(Toni) I am no longer a member of the A.R.E.
(Brent) Well,
whatever we can do... maybe discuss with Nancy via email.
(Brent) Shirley
suggests that we carry on as we are now, and table this whole discussion for the
January meeting.
(Brent) More
(Brent) When the download announcement about
the booklet will have been made to the membership, and we will know by then if
the nonproft is in a position to fund multiple booklet orders from a print
shop.
(Mary) OK. Let's move on.
(Brent) Great!
(Roger) I agree with
Shirley.
(Brent) Item 5: Progress of Short wave radio project
(Brent)
Comments on Shirley's report?
(Jurian) Not really, looking forward to hearing
her progress with the packet modes :-)
(Gerard) No comments
(Brent)
Shirley says: Jurian, next Thursday the instructor is coming to our house to see
what I have (more)
(Mary) Is this costing you $?
(Jurian) Cool, hope you
get it working :-)
(Brent) in the way of equipment, and we are going to
proceed from there.
(Mary) For the private instructor.
(Jurian) Very well
:-)
(Brent) Shirley: Mary, it may, not the instruction, but I may have to buy
more equipment, which I am prepared to do.
(Mary) Good for you.
(Brent)
Any more questions or comments?
(Jurian) Nope
(Brent) Ok... Item 6 Rogers
Acreage Project... report.
(Roger) After burning off the field, both my
associate and I have been too busy to do any tilling.
(Roger) We did go out
there and try our hands at it a bit with the big tiller. It is do-able and then
we ran out of fuel, so I winterized the tiller and left it at that.
(Roger)
The weather has been nice, but with the time change, there isn't much time in
the evenings and I have had too much to do around here to get out there on the
weekends.
(Brent) And the money we gave you to till the property... when will
you use that?
(Roger) That money is being held in reserve, for
now.
(Brent) Is it too late to till this year? Will you save the tilling till
spring?
(Roger) I do not think we will be to get a tractor out there and get
it done this year, but who knows...
(Roger) If nothing else, then certainly
we will till/plow next spring.
(Brent) A few meetings back, we were talking
about winter storage of the equipment, and fencing.
(Roger) The fence posts
are in place and the blisters are healed. I have the barbed wire in my trunk and
will hopefully be able to get out there and get the fence finished this
year.
(Roger) The equipment is stored/locked in my associate's
barn.
(Roger) I think that is it. I have been thinking more about the layout
of the "garden" and am still open to suggestions about what the priority of
plant variety should be.
(Brent) Sounds great! Thanks for the report!
Suggestions can be made through email from the membership about planting in the
spring. Good idea.
(Roger) I am thinking beans, mostly and some corn. Perhaps
wheat, though I don't have a spring variety on hand. Buckwheat is another
possibility. I won't likely have much time to cultivate herbs, etc. so I need
low maintenance/self mulching crops.
(Mary) I move this meeting be offically
closed
(Roger) Hold on a bit Mary...
(Mary) Hey, I got a cow elk to find
before Tues ;-)
(Roger) As is the usual precedent, we should motion to
postpone the next meeting to January, unless some pressing business is
anticipated for December.
(Roger) (Consider that my motion, I
suppose.)
(Brent) Roger, what motion?
(Roger) To postpone the next meeting
to January.
(Jurian) Doh, someone's late :D
(Jurian) Hi, just in time to
say goodbye :-)
(Gerard) Jan: the meeting is almost finished
(Brent)
Welcome Jan, we're just about to wrap the meeting! :-)
(Roger) Hehe, hello
Jan!
(Jan) I'm so sorry - the summer / winter time change got me...
(Jan)
Sorry about this :-(
(Jurian) No worries
(Brent) We're just talking about
the tradition of not having a December meeting because of the
Holidays.
(Mary) I second Roger's motion to forego the Dec.
meeting.
(Jurian) Well, unless we get the router soon, I don't see why we'd
need a meeting in December :)
(Jan) Was I missed during the Shaul discussion?
Since I was the one calling it "unprofessional conduct"...
(Brent) We have a
motion to forgo the December meeting... Vote yes or no
(Mary) By January
we'll know more about the server and the booklets.
(Jurian) Yes
(Roger)
The router and the booklet expenses can likely be handled by email if
needed.
(Roger) Yes
(Toni) Yes
(Gerard) Yes
(Jan) Yes
(Mary)
Yes
(Brent) Shirley: yes, Brent Yes
(Brent) The motion carries
(Toni)
Bye everyone, thanks.
(Roger) And now, I second Mary's motion to
adjourn.
(Mary) Thanks Roger!!!!
(Brent) Toni we haven't adjourned the
meeting...
(Toni) I'm still here.
(Brent) Good! :-)
(Roger) Hehe,
whoops, I guess that should be hohoho!
(Brent) We have a motion to adjourn...
.the meeting is now officially adjourned.
(Brent) See you all in January!
Have a happy holiday!
